OYETAYO OLUWATOYIN wins Funaabsu Idol 2015.
The Maiden edition of Federal University of Agriculture Students’s Union(funaabsu) Idol the 1st ever in a tertiary institution, a singing competition was held today 4th of August 2015 at Mahmood Hall located in the school campus as part of the celebration of the Students’ Union week.
The Hall used for the venue had very lovely decorations, with wonderful lightening and stage effects. The sound was by far the best we’ve had in Funaab with professional instrumentalists and back up singers.
The show kicked off at about 2pm, with Nigeria’s National Anthem and Funaab anthem. The hosts went to introduce the Judges for the event which were:
On the left: Mr Ibukun Kafaru, in the middle: Mr. John Paul Ochei and in the right: Dr. Odeyemi
2. Mr. Ibukun Kafaru, concert pianist and producer.
3. Dr. Odeyemi – Composer of FunaabSU Anthem.
Next was introduction of the contestants, which are:
• UANSERUME FRANKLIN BUBA 100L SSLM.
• UKACHUKWU VIVIAN 400L PBST
• IBUKUNOLUWAPO OLUYEMI 300L PRM
• ADESOMOJU ADEOLA 100L ABG
• FAMESO STEPHEN 500L AERD
• IRUKWU SILVER 100L MCB
• AJAYI OMOWUNMI 300L ECONS
• OLOGUNEBI OLADAPO 300L MCB
• AGADA O. KELVIN 100L PPCP
• OYETAYO OLUWATOYIN 100L HSM
• OKOH CINDY ACHEDU 300L ECONS
They all performed a song in the 1st two rounds:
The songs performed in the 1st round were Foreign, with contestants performing songs like: All of you by John Legend, Hallo by Beyonce, Grenade by Bruno mars and more. While in the second round notable songs like Shade by Adekunle Gold, Toh bad by Sheyi Shey, Kedike by Chidinma and many more.
Some other Artistes came to wow the crowd during the musical break: Zimbiat, Kjuni, Mr Tosin and Gloria.
The contestants later came together to perform “we are the world” which was beautifully taken by everyone of them.
Five contestants were eliminated after the 1st two rounds after a careful evaluation by the judges, their names are: UKACHUKWU VIVIAN 400L PBST, IBUKUNOLUWAPO OLUYEMI 300L PRM, AJAYI OMOWUNMI 300L ECONS, OKOH CINDY ACHEDU 300L ECONS, AGADA O. KELVIN 100L PPCP.
While UANSERUME FRANKLIN BUBA 100L SSLM, ADESOMOJU ADEOLA 100L ABG, FAMESO STEPHEN 500L AERD, IRUKWU SILVER 100L MCB, OLOGUNEBI OLADAPO 300L MCB, OYETAYO OLUWATOYIN 100L HSM made it to the Final round.
At the Final round they all performed songs written by them, all which sounded very professional and had a lot of cheers from the crowd.
After the Final round, there was a musical break before the judges announced the results to the contestants and the anxious audience. Before announcing the results, the judges admonished and encouraged the contestants stating that they all did their best and that the singing competition was beyond the walls of Funaab, because they get to improve on their selves. The results was announced thus:
2nd Runner Up:
OLOGUNEBI OLADAPO 300L MCB
FAMESO STEPHEN 500L AERD.
1st Runner Up:
IRUKWU SILVER 100L MCB.
And the Winner: OYETAYO OLUWATOYIN 100L HSM.
The winner when interviewed thanked the organisers of the event for giving them such platform and for coming up with such idea. She also said she didn’t think she could win. In her words:
“I thank the organisers of the first ever FunaabSU Idol, for giving us such a platform and I must say this is the best sound I have heard since when I came into Funaab.
At first I didn’t think I could because when we(The contestants) were doing rehearsals, I saw some people that had better voice than me, but they actually pushed me to perform better and tighten my belt. I feel very happy winning it”.
The event was a very successful event and most students of Funaab will be looking forward to the 2nd edition.
