My
name is Oluwanimoduroti Lawson, I'm called 'Mo' for shorts. I am a
Nigerian, born in the United Kingdom with Scottish roots. Notice I said I am
Nigerian, this shouldn't be very surprising as I am not under the illusion that
I'm British, hence am naturally Nigerian....with an English accent though
(covers face).
I'd
spare you the lame gist of how I turned out to be English-Scottish-Nigerian,
unless you ask about it in the comment section. I finished my degree in
designing from the University of Birmingham last week and I managed to persuade
my parents into sending me to Nigeria for my youth service. I want to serve my
country for bloody sake, why they wouldn't get that is beyond me. Anyhoo, after
the whole persuasion and grandparents-intervention thingy, I'm in Abuja with my
aunt Temisan( this is temporary, till I get my own apartment) patiently waiting
to receive my call-up latter from the NYSC office.
Now
I know that there are definitely things that will happen, things I'm not used
to and that I'd most likely meet people who would take advantage of my mixed
nationality but I don't care. I want to witness this country that has been to
me like some faraway fairytale land, know how it's 'original' people think and
take on life (while I don't consider myself 'fake', I'm hardly an 'original'
Nigerian). Hold up, something tells me these 'original' people are reading this
right now and 'smh-ing' thinking "this girl doesn't know what she's in
for". Exactly! I don't know but it'd be so much fun if you stick around
while I dedicate my leisure to updating you on my adventure.
Yours naive,
Mo..
