Poverty & Child Abuse
These two major social problems are present in our society  today and time after time the adequate attention required by them arr not given by individuals, government and its agencies, religious groups and the many Non Governmental organizations.

According to recent statistics Child abuse is on the rise in the country.
These figures are really alarming and got me thinking if we as individuals are doing enough leaving the government out of this.
Our Nigeria of today is one where  those in government are after  brining themselves down and making as much billions as possible  and not paying needed attention to those very important aspects of the nation's citizen's welfare.
Power tussle  is what they think of always  leaving  the masses to suffer the effect thereafter. How will they even know the abuse the children  that are homeless  or less privileged  suffer  or how poor over 50% Nigerians are when they never leave their castles and send their kids abroad for greener pastures.
A certain scenario  occured at a park in Abeokuta, Ogun state, the popular  pansheke park to be precise this led to me writing this brief piece that i hope will reach the right quarters.
While i was in the car waiting for it to get full i saw a man touching very little  girl (one of the park beggars) in an offensive  manner but those around didn't even see it that way i guess  to them it appeared like he was playing with her, the man kept on saying "You no wan marry me abi? Na that small boy you wan marry" i was perplexed  and i just wanted to do something as i knew that the girl might be raped by that particular man or even any other tout later or sooner, this young girl kept on trying to get the man to let her go still it appeared as a joke to those around i was looking at the girl and all i could see in her eyes was fear frustration and hopelessness.
This same ordeal is not just faced by this girl i saw at the park but also by many millions of kids (both male and female) across the country.
From the kids that hawk around streets been raped ny their evil customers  to those hawking in the traffic jam been exposed to physical and verbal abuse on a daily basis to those that are apprentices having their basic human rights violated by their so called masters.
Poverty is a major contributing factor to child abuse  am not saying a rich kid can't be abused or violated but its more rampant amongst the poor.
This piece is not aimed at throwing shades instead  its aimed at serving as a wake up call for all of us (government official or not) to do the right thing  and reduce to the bearest minimum incidents of child abuse and in turn secure a good future  for these kids we all can be tbe change we want to see the government cant do it all.

If you are an individual with a funds to spare you can easily set up somewhere where these kids can learn a particular skill, take them of the streets.
Proper community based sensitization needz to however be done by the government  and also the creation, amendment  and proper and effective  implementation of laws that will safeguard every Nigerian child against abuse.
If Nigeria is to reach the promise land the leaders of tomorrow  have to have to adequate cratered for.
Thanks from a concerned Nigerian.
