Posted on Friday, July 22, 2016 with No comments

One of Unilag's music artiste, Merit Lee who is becoming famous and making waves with his style of music. In an interview session with Unilag Olofofo;

Who are you?

I am Adedeji Femi (Mr. Lee) aka Merit Lee, student of Geography, school of first choice and the Nation's pride, the University of Lagos.

What are your core values?

My core values are commitment and integrity.

Tell us about growing up

Mehn! It wasn't easy but all thanks to God who turned around my life. The challenges I face made me hold on and never gave up. A speaker once said, ".This got things ringing in my head as the day went by, I knew I had to win all life challenges in order to be who I wanted to be.

What inspires you

Basically I'd say my inspiration comes as a result of when I look into the world and see that the Music world hasn't given enough of what their audiences need. I need to contribute my own experience to experience and show my light on how my style and songs should be assuring the world things would be for the better.

Tell us about your anticipated play tracks

About my anticipated play tracks, I have a couple of tracks which would be coming up soon. First is the one titled "NEED" featuring the German Juice Lady and Queen of Modern Reggae, Cynthia Morgan. Second, which is just a single track titled "LIFE".
Both songs are as a result of my life experiences, wanting to let people know about their lifestyle and what they can do to keep good life and smile always.

You said you're featuring Cynthia Morgan, why?

It's just Cynthia Morgan, the one who can murder every beat by just listening to it and I considered working with her cause I want to combine R&B with reggae.

How do you intend to impact lives with your tracks?

That's a great thing every musician would love to say if not all entertainers. I want my music to impact lives positively through my style of music and lyrics.

What are your projections for the future

It's of many factors, I want to keep doing my music until everybody out there knows me for my music. I also want my albums to be the best, go on better tours, more singles and feature both local and international acts.

Parting words for your target audience and who are they

Everyone should be my audience, everyone who loves good music, those who understand there's no shortcut to glory. Stay positive and pray for me, support me, your support would push me to the big stage, where I'd be called upon for nominations.

My tracks would be released on the 30th July, 2016, Anticipate!!!

UNILAG STUDENTS TO BE PUNISHED BY AUTHORITY

Posted on Thursday, June 23, 2016 with No comments

The management at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has reportedly put a panel in place to punish students who participated in the recent campus protest.

The Senate Disciplinary Panel, according to information gathered, has sent out invitation to students to attend the panel with plans to punish them for their action.

The students staged the protest in April, in an effort to call the school management's attention to the deplorable living condition and lack of amenities on campus.

The management has already suspended the University of Lagos Students’ Union following the protest. It ejected members of the union from their campus accommodation once the school reopened after the protest.

In response to their action, the university authorities attributed the students’ demonstration to exuberance and accused the Students’ Union leadership of lacking integrity.
Every member of the suspended Students' Union has been invited to the panel.

Information obtained points that the move is part of a plot to distract the students from launching a fresh protest for the restoration of the suspended union.

The source added that the students have launched a social media campaign for the restoration of the University of Lagos Students Union (ULSU) under a hashtag #RestoreULSU. This, he added, has caused the authorities huge embarrassment, forcing them into a crackdown on students leading the agitation.

MEET ONE OF UNILAG'S BEST DANCE CREW

Posted on Friday, June 17, 2016 with No comments

Dance is an art, it's a sequence of rhythmic steps or movements usually performed to music, for pleasure or as a form of social interaction. Dance is performed by almost everyone, no matter how little you turn your body to a beat, you are preforming dance. Dance comes in different forms according to different music types such as The popular Breakdance, B-Boy, Hip hop, Salsa, Balet and other locally oriented dances.

In Unilag there are many Dance Crews which contains pretty good dancers, among which I present to you one of the Best of them all, 'The Charachoros Dance Company'.

An interview with one of it's members reveals what the Dance Crew is all about.

What's Charachoros Dance Crew all about?

Charachoros means Joy of Dance in Greek. It's a brand that represents a team of young professionals in Dance and Entertainment. Charachoros began as a group of dancers but has enlarged over three years to accommodate not just dancers but models, photographers, fashion and graphic designers. It has become a platform on which anyone talented or creative can build themselves or also to realize their true potential being part of the team.

When did Charachoros start?

Charachoros started June 2012 and was founded by Jesse Akinwande a graduate of the University of Lagos, department of Physics/Education. I started dancing at a very young age more as a hobby but got serious as people around me saw it as a talent as i grew up.
Got engaged with a lot of dance groups as time went on, from my high school dance group to Soul Quest in Unilag, but still I was looking for something much different, a chance to fully express and showcase my love and joy for dance through freestyle.
So I became a solo dancer and later won the Amstel Malta Showtime Competition, Lagos in 2011. Then I thought of reaching out to people with similar minds and style, so I started Charachoros.

Who is the Leader?

Charachoros is headed and led by the CEO and Founder, Jesse Akinwande

How do you see the achievements your dance crew has achieved?

One of our greatest achievements is evolving over the years from a dance crew into a Company. Charachoros Dance Company manages the crew and uses dance and entertainment as business tools to achieving company goals and project objectives. Charachoros has also established its brand of dance classes/workshops and has recorded an average turnout of over 100 dance students in unilag. We intend taking it to all other university/colleges nationwide. It aims to reach out to all student dancers to help improve and inspire joy for dance in everyone.

Where do you see your crew in the nearest future?

Paving the way for the new generation of modern dancers. Building the dance industry and becoming established as a network of successful and influential individuals of diverse careers and walk of life but having one thing in common, 'The Joy and Love for Dance'.

What have you to say to other dancers out there?

There is no shortcut to stardom, there is no onetime opportunity that'll set you up forever, you have to be consistent and constantly doing something creative to stay relevant.
A saying goes, 'If you want to go FAST go alone, if you want to go FAR go with your team'. Therefore I say go with both, work hard to become the best at what you do then network with others sharing  similar dream/vision as yours. You'll Go Fast and also go Far.
Above all, ask God for Wisdom and Direction in everything you do.

Charachoros currently recruit dancers for their dance classes. Registration for dance classes is simple.

Send full name, phone number and email to 08061122452, 07053521473.

According a Twitter user today, 20 Unilag Girls went partying overnight and only 3 of them returned later the next morning crying. They reportedly said that they narrowly escaped their lives.
They were supposed to be given a sum of #80,000 each as a reward for attending the overnight party, or what some people call 'Thanks for coming reward package'.
It's well with them and their families, and May God protect us all.

10 CATEGORIES OF STUDENTS THAT REQUEST FOR EXTRA BOOKLETS DURING EXAMS

Posted on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 with No comments
We have carefully and systematically observed quite a fairly few sizeable number of students who request for extra answer sheets in the exam hall, and writing exams these few weeks actually provided with an incentive that led to this article.
image
1. The Oppressors:
These categories of students will always top a list like this. They request for extra sheets primarily not because they actually need it but to subject other students to undue pressures making them look like they know nothing. A friend wrote a very tedious exam that threw him into a condition where he was looking up to heaven to provide answers to the questions, when this dude (oppresser) subjected all of them to undue pressures by requesting for extra sheets, making them feel like they have only come to school not to learn but for excursions. Mr/Miss Show Off.
2. The Photocopiers;
This is the category where some belong (as they no sabi book, at least, they suppose sabi copy well na) The photocopiers will dub the answers of both friends and enemies regardless of their GPs. Whether the GPs of those they are copying are 0.92, 1.00, 1.25 respectively, for all they care. They will add their own answers to the ones they copy from friends and enemies and before you know it, they will write more than anyone else. When their booklets become voluminous and can no longer contain answers, they will request for extra sheets.
3. The “I too know”:
During lectures, these students will argue with lecturers and create argumentative scenes in the class; they ask both relevant and irrelevant questions in the lecture hall. They will ask questions during lectures and will still be the ones to answer it themselves (how ironical?). You would think they will hit first class/distinction because of their display of vast knowledge on all course. They will go into the exam hall with this same character. When a lecturer asks “Summarily define Research methodology”. They will continue to write and write and go off point; they will narrate how Moses delivered the Israelites from Bondage; and how King Solomon married 500 wives and lusted after 300 concubines; they will even add Biblical references. When their booklets have been filled up, they will request for sheets to finish up their bull-crap.
4. The Story Tellers:
They share similar characteristics with the “I too know” students. The story tellers can’t explain or define theories without telling stories to justify their answers. Their stories and digression get their booklets quickly filled up.
5. The Scholars:
Of course, these ones are undoubtedly very brilliant. They will logically, lucidly and analytically answer exam questions and may demand extra booklets when need be. When they request for extra sheets, be sure that they will get nothing less than “A”, unlike the “I too know” crew who would demand extra sheets and still end up with an “E”.
6. Masquerade Carriers:
In case you don’t know, masquerade carriers is a synonym for “expo colonial masters”. They are so skilled and expert that they will still manoeuvre their way out even if thousands of invigilators are deployed to their hall. They will request for extra sheets, smuggle it into their pockets and will take it to their hostels. They will dub answers on it for the exam they are having the next day.
image
7. The Competitors:
They say life is a race, if you don’t run fast, you may get trampled.. The competitors dwell in this notion that life is a race, therefore, when they spot a student requesting for an extra sheet, they will also request for extra sheets so as to compete with that person.
8. The “Wetty Palm” Students;
The size of their handwriting font is as big as Olumo rock; just two answers, their booklets don full. A blind man won’t even find it hard to read their booklet at a glance.
9. The Misspellers:
Quite a few fall in this same category. They are are called misspellers cos they aren’t good in spelling. Often times, they even misspell their own names, department and course title and will have cross it out and spell it all over again. By the reason of their deficiencies in spelling, their booklets becomes so rough and illegible to read, hence, they can’t but demand for new sheets for fresh work
10. Feel free to add the last one
We drop our pens at this point. We wish you guys a blissful and Fun-filled holidays.

Unilag Students, What Next?

Posted on Friday, April 29, 2016 with No comments
The Mixed reactions over the signing of the Undertaking and Idemnity form in which the University of Lagos authorities gave the Students an option to either sign and reabsorbed back into the school or reject it and don't have access to school opportunities has left students really confused for quite a while.
The Undertaking and Idemnity form which was ordered by the School on the 22nd of April, 2016 after a meeting held by the School senate committe in which decisions were concluded over the forthcoming examinations which was meant to have started on the 18th of April, 2016 before an indefinite call of the students to vacate the school premises following the potests led by the University of Lagos Student Union Body from the 6th to 8th of April, 2016.
Students on hearing the School new decision took to Social Media to express themselves in various ways and used hashtags to tell the world what they really wanted.
ULSU in participation with some school union bodies such as LASUSU, FEC, and others were meant to have led another protest defending their rights but it couldn't hold due to some changes and conditions which the ULSU clearly made students know about.
ULSU filed a case against the school authorities in order to restore the rights of the students back which they felt the school authorities were about to deny them by signing the Undertaking and Indemnity form for effective reabsorption back into the school.
Some Broadcast messages circulated in different groups to show what is currently going on and the decisions made by the ULSU, of which an issue rose up in a supposed group known as the MTH Group in which a lady known as Ayomide Olaniyan who claimed to be a Child of one of the School senate committee and posted some comments which she assured the students that she heard it from her father who is a member of the School senate. She allegedly accused the ULSU committee of hiding their real desires by covering up and making students support them so that their deeds wouldn't be exposed and also accused an Exco in the ULSU committee of smoking an illegal drug known as Marijuana. The Exco came up and defended herself and asked the alleged student who made the claim to come out and challenge her with those same words.
Students have been seen approaching the school premises in order to sign the Undertaking and Indemnity form before the deadline in order to write the forthcoming exams which starts from 9th of May, 2016.
The question is what are students left with, which option do we have left, who do we support in this fight for justice, The School or the ULSU. All we need are answers, we neee our full rights back, restore our Union and make our welfare met.
We are the Greatest Akokites, We are a family, School of first choice and the Nation's Pride, we won't let our great University be torn apart.

MIXED REACTIONS TRAIL UNILAG RESUMPTION DATE...

Posted on Sunday, April 24, 2016 with No comments

On the 22nd of April, 2016. The University of Lagos Students received a news from the school management calling them back to resume on the 2nd of May 2016.  Rather than the normal resumption process after a protest, the information which circulated like wildfire read that students would be re admitted back into the institution and would have to sign an undertaking and indemnity form which would also bear the signature of parents/guardians and that of some school officials.

Students who fail to sign these forms wont be allowed into the school premises and also participate in the forth coming examinations which is slated to begin from the 9th of may 2016.

The school also suspended the activities of the student union body which was recently brought back in 2015 after its suspension for over 10 years.

Students went online on different social Media platforms to express themselves and speak out on the new action taken by the school authorities. some saw it as a funny step while others saw it as a bitter action which could mean that the students would have no right on thier own and also have a body to speak on their views as time goes on.

Twitter experienced  a massive meltdown as students poured out their minds with #RestoreULSU and #Newunilagrules.

Below are some reactions by students about the call back, exam date and signing of the indemnity/undertaking.

What do you have to say about the Students view and their reactions.

You can join the Trend on Twitter http://www.twitter.com/ and use the hashtag #RestoreULSU.

 Your voice would be heard.

What are your own views about the matter, are the Authorities right or wrong in their decisions or ULSU .
